Get Lost Wandering
KL is an eclectic architectural gem; walking around is like a worldwide exploration. I loved wandering around all day and seeing where I ended up. From colonial buildings to the Petronas towers range of architecture was impressive.
Escape The City In Bukit Nanas
A mini jungle within the city, with canopy walks and bamboo trails, you can get lost wandering around this green escape from the city when it gets too much. If you crave nature when wondering what to do in Kuala Lumpur, here is the perfect remedy. A perfect way to introduce nature into a thriving city!
Explore The Thean Hou Temple
Just on the city’s outskirts is a beautiful Chinese / Buddhist temple. Complete with hanging lanterns, Chinese dragons, three giant buddhas, incense sticks and incredible, intricate geometric ceilings.
Ancient Chinese architecture is one of my favourites; the colours and details create mysticism. It is a religious site, so dress appropriately and light incense as an offering before entering the praying core.
Visit The Batu Caves
About 30 minutes outside the city, you’ll find the world-famous Batu caves, nestled into limestone cliffs. Recently the steps have been painted in multi-colours.
Together with a gigantic golden Hindu deity, it creates the perfect site for photographs for tourists, but defiantly worth seeing.
After ascending the hundreds of almost vertical steps, you’ll be engulfed in the cave, which hosts an equally colourful Hindu temple inside; the cool cave temperatures are very welcoming after the steep pilgrimage hike!
Gaze At The Petronas Towers
The iconic Petronas Twin Towers are a testament to Kuala Lumpur’s modernity and architectural prowess. Soaring into the sky, these twin structures were once the tallest buildings in the world.
For the towers, the metro stop is KLCC. Also, if you get off at the stop Masjik Jamek, you’ll find the Arabic mosque and the old colonial quarter, with rows of beautiful colonic buildings.
Visitors can take an elevator ride to the observation deck on the 86th floor, where they’re greeted with breathtaking panoramic views of the city’s skyline, incredibly stunning during sunset.
Visit The Merdeka Square
Also known as Independence Square, this historical site is essential in Malaysia’s history. The Sultan Abdul Samad Building, an exquisite example of Moorish architecture, stands at one end of the square.
The Royal Selangor Club, another colonial-era building, is nearby. The court has witnessed essential events, including the country’s declaration of independence in 1957. Surrounded by lush greenery, it’s a place to reflect on Malaysia’s journey to nationhood.
Experience Chinatown
Petaling Street in Chinatown offers a bustling atmosphere filled with market stalls, street food vendors, and a fusion of cultures. This vibrant area is perfect for shopping, from imitation goods to local crafts and souvenirs.
At night, the street comes alive with colourful lights, and the aroma of various cuisines fills the air. It’s a great place to immerse yourself in the local lifestyle and sample delicious Malaysian-Chinese cuisine.
Marvel at The Islamic Arts Museum
This museum is a treasure trove of Islamic art and culture. Its stunning collection includes intricate calligraphy, exquisite ceramics, rare manuscripts, and artefacts from various Islamic civilizations.
Divided into different galleries, the museum provides insights into the artistic and intellectual contributions of the Islamic world throughout history. It’s not only informative but also a visually captivating experience.

The Kuala Lumpur Tower, often called KL Tower, is an emblem of modernization. The tower’s observation deck, over 400 meters, offers a panoramic view of the city, showcasing its dynamic blend of old and new architecture. The building boasts a futuristic design, and its illuminated presence at night is a sight.
Shop At Bukit Bintang
From designer shops, luxury mall outlets and a strip of Chinese street food restaurants, Bukit Bintang is the perfect evening out for retail therapy and an authentic Malay / Chinese dinner. It has everything from durian smoothies to dim sum, Vietnamese pho, and Malay cuisine.
Shop At Central Market
Central Market is the place to go if you’re seeking unique Malaysian souvenirs and crafts. Housed within a charming colonial-era building, this market offers everything from traditional batik fabrics to intricate woodcarvings and jewellery.
The market has become a hub for local artisans to showcase their creations, making it an ideal spot to pick up authentic Malaysian keepsakes.

Escape the urban bustle in the tranquillity of the Perdana Botanical Garden. Also known as Lake Gardens, this sprawling park offers a serene environment with lush landscapes, vibrant flowers, and a large lake.
It’s a popular spot for jogging, picnics, and strolls. The gardens also house attractions like the Orchid Garden, Hibiscus Garden, and a deer park. If you start to crave some greenery when wondering what to do in Kuala Lumpur, here is the perfect remedy.
Visit the National Mosque (Masjid Negara)
The National Mosque of Malaysia is a magnificent architectural marvel that showcases the country’s Islamic heritage. The mosque’s modern design features a stunning central dome and a minaret.
It can accommodate thousands of worshippers and is open to visitors outside prayer times. The mosque’s serene surroundings and intricate details make it a peaceful place for reflection and photography.
Excite The Senses At Little India
Step into the vibrant cultural enclave of Little India, where the atmosphere changes dramatically with vibrant colours, fragrances, and sounds. You’ll find shops selling Indian textiles, jewellery, and spices.
The area is famous for its Indian restaurants offering a range of delectable dishes, from flavorful curries to crispy dosas. Exploring Little India is like taking a short journey to India itself.
